A Speedy deep-cut appeals to the watch nerd in all of us, but the larger theme of having something so valuable and not knowing about it is what sent this story out of the watch world and helped it make headlines in the British tabloid world. There’s just a 12, a six, and a date window. But the minimalist nature of the dial in concert with the double branding on the bezel creates a look and feel that just works, and feels like the 1980s in a more visceral way than I was expecting.At $73,000, the Polo 79 is a lot of watch for a lot of money. The gold case and bracelet are beautifully crafted, and there are almost 200 grams to account for. The problem, if it even is one, comes when you start to cross-shop with competitors. For $73,000, you can do a lot of damage with almost any brand. But unlike the existing Polo, the Polo 79 doesn’t have a true competitor on the market – the Polo stands on its own, and I’m glad it’s back.Did I mention the C-2R ran the full 1,000 miles and worked like a charm? But that pricing speaks to excitement and scarcity, which is a concept we know well when it comes to this model.A second Moonshine gold model is being offered, and this one might be my favorite of the bunch. It features all of the elements described above but instead of the full gold bracelet, it comes on a vintage-inspired black strap. I think the strap really accentuates the ceramic bezel and the black subsidiary dials.
